Energy law

The energy sector is characterized by complex challenges spanning law, environmental issues, economics, and innovation. We support our clients (producers, distributors, investors, local authorities, companies, banks, and financial institutions) through every stage of their energy projects, ensuring legal certainty and regulatory compliance.

Areas of Expertise

Our expertise covers a wide range of energy-related areas, providing tailored solutions to address the legal and strategic challenges of this ever-evolving sector.

Renewable Energy Production Projects

We assist in the implementation of solar, wind, hydroelectric, biomass, methanization, hydrogen, and geothermal projects, from initial development through completion and operation.

Environmental Regulation and Compliance

We advise on compliance with environmental and energy standards, including handling administrative permits, conducting impact assessments, and meeting obligations related to the energy transition.

Supply and Distribution Contracts

We draft, negotiate, and secure supply, transport, and distribution contracts for electricity, gas, hydrogen, and other energy sources.

Energy Project Acquisitions and Financing

We assist in the acquisition, sale, or financing of energy projects and infrastructure, ensuring an optimal legal and tax structure.

Energy Markets and Regulation

We provide strategic advice on legal frameworks governing energy markets, including cross-border transactions, capacity mechanisms, and emissions-trading systems.

Energy Transition and Renewable Energy Development

We counsel companies on the energy transition, particularly regarding investments in renewable energy. We also assist clients with projects aimed at reducing their carbon footprint.

Energy Infrastructure Management

We provide support for the construction, operation, and maintenance of strategic infrastructure such as electrical grids, pipelines, and storage facilities.

Innovation and New Technologies

We offer legal advice on emerging technologies, including batteries, smart grids, and green hydrogen.

Energy Security and Risk Management

We guide clients in managing risks related to energy security, specifically in infrastructure resilience and crisis management, while ensuring compliance with relevant safety requirements.

Examples of support

We assisted a major energy-sector player in drafting an exit memorandum for an energy supply contract (Offtake Agreement) and in reviewing and analyzing the bankability of several long-term energy supply contracts (Corporate Power Purchase Agreements – CPPAs). We also helped structure a new business unit focused on PPAs.

We advised several banks on financing the modernization of an incineration facility. Commissioned over 20 years ago, this energy recovery plant processes waste from more than 100 municipalities, serving approximately 350,000 residents. Through waste combustion, the facility produces around 41 GWh of electricity per year.

We assisted a renewable energy company in the development of its projects in France, handling all regulatory aspects (including urban planning law, environmental law, and energy law) to ensure the seamless progression of their projects.

We advised multiple banks on financing the construction of a portfolio of eight photovoltaic plants with a total capacity of 67 MW, developed by a solar energy specialist. This portfolio includes two facilities whose electricity is sold under Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs) with an international retail company. Thanks to its agri-PV expertise, the developer designed these two plants so that agricultural activities could continue beneath the panels, allowing farmers to diversify without compromising land quality or productivity.

Given the growing importance of the constraints linked to the energy performance of buildings, leading industry players have been prompted to reassess their strategies. In this context, we advised a major construction and energy conglomerate on structuring its program to establish a comprehensive energy strategy for the entire group while forming an internal dedicated team. Our involvement covered the legal, financial, and tax structuring of this program.
