De Gaulle Fleurance strengthens its criminal tax and commercial litigation teams with the arrival of Mathilde Varet
Mathilde Varet joins De Gaulle Fleurance as a Senior Associate.
A lawyer for twelve years, she advises clients in France and internationally on criminal and corporate litigation, criminal tax law and civil liability disputes. Mathilde Varet is recognized for her expertise, particularly in monitoring investigations conducted by the French National Financial Prosecutor’s Office and other independent administrative authorities. She also acts in pre-litigation matters, negotiated proceedings (CJIP, CRPC, etc.), internal investigations and matters relating to reputation protection, compliance and the duty of care.
Mathilde Varet’s experience is also decidedly international. She has worked with both French and foreign companies on cases involving Courts in Switzerland, Monaco, Africa, Central America and South America. As a multilingual lawyer, she is fluent in French, English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Mathilde Varet holds an LL.M. in Comparative Criminal Law from Trinity College Dublin, a Master’s degree in general Private Law from the University of Paris I – Panthéon-Sorbonne, and a certificate in Criminology and Criminal Sciences from the University of Toulouse I – Capitole.
“Companies are facing increasingly frequent and aggressive criminal proceedings, particularly in tax matters,” observes Mathilde Varet, Of Counsel at De Gaulle Fleurance. “In the event of a search, an interview (whether voluntary or in police custody) or even during pre-trial detention, executives often find themselves at a loss. It therefore becomes strategic to equip them with the right reflexes and essential guidelines for dealing with litigation, whether it involves the tax authorities or the criminal justice system.”
“With the arrival of Mathilde Varet, De Gaulle Fleurance is strengthening its support in litigation and in corporate tax and criminal law, serving companies both in France and abroad, particularly in Europe, Latin America and Africa, thereby consolidating the full-service approach developed by the group through its various offices,” explains Vincent Schmitt, a member of the executive committee at De Gaulle Fleurance.
